Never in my wildest dreams did I think that an aerial athlete would be recognized as a brand ambassador for an international car brand like Mazda. It’s just not something that happens to people from my sport (because honestly, we’re still in the middle of a struggle to be recognized as a sport). But more that that, I most certainly did not expect that it would be me writing this in history ❤️
This project took almost half a year in the making, from the moment I was informed I got shortlisted, to the day they finally called me in to be part of the team. What an overwhelming experience it has been. Many people might ask — Why me? Why not someone mainstream. Or someone who plays regular sports. Why choose an aerialist? Why a circus performer? Or maybe someone more famous. Someone better looking. Or maybe someone “more appropriate”.
To be honest, it does cross my mind sometimes. Why me. Do I even have what it takes to live up to this. Am I biting off more than I can chew? But after some time I realize this. It is in all my imperfections that make me — Me. I am a creator. A thinker of ideas. A maker of things. This is what I shall keep doing. With all that I am, and all that I could be, I will keep creating, moving, flying. Sure I’m not your cookie cutter athlete. But I represent someone who lives out of the ordinary. I am a ground shaker, an earth mover. That kind does not come by quite often.
In the middle of self doubt, try to see yourself outside of your eyes. See yourself through the eyes of the ones that affirm you. The most important ones being the ones you keep close. Your immediate circle of trust. But in rare occasions, affirmation comes from the giants. The ones you never thought could see you but do.
So. Here’s to changing the game. Here’s to breaking the mould. Proof that whatever it is that you do, do it with everything you’ve got. Regardless of what people say, regardless of how different your calling is from the rest of the world. Regardless of opposition — Fight for it. Fight for it fiercely. Live passionately, and be the undeniable force, powerful enough to change the world. ✨
It is an absolute honor to represent a brand that is unafraid to be who they are. A co-creator, unique in all it’s intricacies. A designer, passionate and skilled. — “KODO” at the heart of it all. Beating, moving, flying.
